A course is a virtual space that can be used for the purpose of teaching, communicating, and working together. Ideally, it supplements an existing event such as a seminar, lecture, or training. The required functions are provided by individual course elements.

Overview of the user interface in the course view

With the release of OPAL 12.0 many course functions can be used in the new user interface. If some of these functions are not yet available in your system, see the detailed view for instructions on using these functions in the old interface.


According to your user role and course rights, the following areas will be visible to you in the course view:

Function menus and modes: The currently active functions menu is highlighted.

Course view

Editing mode: access to the course editor

Group mode: access to the group management
Assessment mode: access to the assessment tool

Further views/modes: Statistics, data archiving, details and settings as well as rights management

3Navigation area: This area displays all course elements visible to you in a linear structure. It can be collpased.
4Content area: Here you can see the content of the course element selected from the course navigation. Depending on the configuration, the first element in the course shows a preview of individual course content.
