After logging in to the platform, the home page section will be displayed by default with different portlets. Portlets are elements that you can not only use as shortcuts, but also for the purpose of individualising your home page.

Alternatively, you can also set any course or learning resource available to you as your home page, depending on where you wish to begin in the system after logging in.

Available portlets

Depending on the system configuration, the following portlets will be available to you:


Name of the portletPurpose

First StepsIndividual basic functions can, for example, offer quick access to create or import a course or learning resource. The quick access to the question bank for test resources is also included in this portlet.
Symbol Favorit
Favourites

This portlet gives you an overview of all courses and groups that you have marked as favourites.

Recently OpenedYour last opened courses are linked here.
Symbol Bestanden
Assessment ResultsYou will be shown an overview of all courses that you have already completed.
Symbol Gruppe
My GroupsThis portlet lists all groups in which you are registered as a tutor or participant.
Symbol Kurs
SupervisingThis portlet lists all the courses that you are responsible for as a supervisor. It is only visible to authors.
Symbol Kurs
AttendingYou will be shown a list of all courses in which you are enrolled.
Symbol Institution
My InstitutionIn this portlet, information about your institution is displayed. Only the institution’s administrators as well as system administrators can customise the content of the portlet for their institution.

Interesting Information

This portlet provides a general search field to find resources and displays courses that may sound interesting to you in preview boxes. For this purpose, the most frequently opened courses for one month will be selected from your course catalogue. The search period can be altered in the configuration view of the portlet.

Depending on the content you usually rely on when working with the learning platform, you can activate different portlets and reposition them as required. The positioning is done via drag and drop. Simply drag the portlet to the desired position.

Add portlet

To add a portlet to the home page, proceed as follows:

Open the tab Home page.

Click on Add portlet.

A window opens with a list of all available portlets.

4Click on Add to add all desired portlets.
5The window closes and the selected portlet(s) will be displayed on the home page.

Move the portlet(s) via drag and drop to the desired position in order to customise your home page.

The availability of different portlets depends on both the configuration of the learning platform and your institution. The portlet My Notes, for example, is not available to all users.

Delete portlet

To remove a portlet from the home page, proceed as follows:

Open the tab Home page.

Click on the gear icon in the upper right corner of the portlet to open the configuration menu.

Select Hide to remove the portlet from your home page.

Via Add portlet, a removed portlet can be reintegrated into the home page at any time.

To customise the elements of a portlet, proceed as follows:

Click on the gear icon in the upper right corner of the portlet to open the configuration menu.

3Select the entry Configure.

The following configuration options will be offered to you depending on the selected portlet:

Number of elementsDefine the number of elements to be displayed. By default, six entries will be shown. You can increase the number of elements up to a maximum of 20 entries.
RankingDefine the order of the displayed entries. You can choose between Increasing, Decreasing, and Newest First.
Select all visible entries

If you open this list, all entries which are available to you will be displayed. Using the checkboxes, you can also only select specific entries for display.

If you select a higher number of checkboxes than configured in the field Number of elements, not all of the selected elements will be displayed.

If configuration restrictions prevent some entries from being displayed, a note in the title of the portlet will inform you about the number of entries that are actually available.

Edit content of the portlet My Institution

Only the institution's administrators as well as system administrators can customise the content of the portlet My Institution.  

To edit the content of the portlet My Institution, proceed as follows:

Open the home page. Click on the gear icon in the upper right corner of the portlet My Institution to open the configuration menu.

2Select the entry Edit.

In the editing mode, you can use the Text editor to customise the content of the portlet to your liking.

Below the text editor, you can see the content of the portlet's resource folder. This folder offers the possibility to manage stored content such as images or videos. In addition to deleting and adding resources, you can also rename your resources. Once a resource has been selected via its checkbox, the corresponding buttons will be activated above the table.

Edit institution portlet

Via the HTML view of the Text editor, you can display content in this portlet depending on user attributes or the system language selected. Just add the content in the following format at the appropriate position to the HTML code:

Example 1: To provide a link to OPAL which will be displayed to all users whose first name begins with an E, enter:

Example 2: To provide a text which will be displayed to users depending on the system language selected, enter:

In the editing mode of the portlet, all content is displayed. In normal mode, however, the content of the portlet is displayed depending on attributes.

Set course or learning resource as home page

You can set any course or learning resource visible to you as your personal home page. After successful login, you will then be directed to this page.

Open the resource you wish to set as your home page.

Click on the expand iconin the upper right corner.

Select the entry Set “course/learning resource” as home page.

With the next login, this course or learning resource will be displayed directly after the login.

Once you select the entry Set “course/learning resource” as home page from within another resource, this new resource will be displayed after the login.

Remove course or learning resource as home page

To display portlets on your home page again, proceed as follows:

Log in to the platform. The resource currently selected as your home page opens.

With the next login, your home page will again display portlets.
