To the ONYX WebEditor

The ONYX Testsuite has established itself as E-assessment system. In order to meet your requirements in terms of utilization scenarios we orientate our systems on your needs. Those last years, especially requirements regarding standard conformity and integration possibilities in existing systems and learning scenarios have been identified as important criteria for the ONYX Testsuite. Thanks to their extensive functionalities and flexible structure, the ONYX components enable the support of individual utilization scenarios.

So far, regarding the test and task creation we were not able to meet completely the users´ needs. Based on feedback and our expertise we have developed new ideas to improve workflows for the production of qualitative assessment content.

The demands on the ONYX Editor are currently different: on the one hand users want to create or convert, independent from the system context, standard conform content and must thus rely on stand-alone applications. On the other hand contents shall be created and used in concrete learning scenarios, which implies an integration of the ONYX Editor into the used system. Furthermore, there exist great differences between the working environments and workflows as well as in the expectations of the authors. Improvements in terms of the use, usability and the integration of the ONYX Editor can only be reached by a flexibly usable system.

An application with several utilization possibilities:

  • Desktop application: guarantees network independence and a secure, closed working environment.
  • Web application: guarantees network independence, distribution and a time and location independent use.
  • Integrability: guarantees an uniform e-assessment workflow in usual system environments (e.g. OLAT Campus, OLAT Enterprise and OPAL). Please try it: OLAT Campus demo system

The technology reorientation of the ONYX Editor was the opportunity to modify and enhance existing structures regarding the use and integration of own content management. The aim is to offer easy concepts to administrate and exchange e-assessment contents, and thus the fundamentals of developing individual question pools (repositories).

Increase efficiency and improve quality by exchanging e-assessment contents

  • Administration of contents locally or on free selectable repositories
  • Direct access to repositories within the authoring environment
  • Easy editing, using and referencing of centrally administrated contents

The conception as well as the first implementation phase can be finalized by end of 2012 thanks to the Project E³A - efficiency increasement when creating eassessment content (sponsored by SMWK) in cooperation with the Hochschule Zittau/Görlitz and a first beta version can be deployed. In 2013, the planned functionality shall be completely realized in collaboration with the ONYX community and project partners. You can actively participate in this:

We are looking for partners to further improve the concept and to complete the ONYX Editors´ functionalities. Your ideas and suggestions are welcome.
